The West Indian cricket team is the national cricket team for West Indies representing in international cricket. They are governed by the West India cricket board.
They are popularly known as the "Windies" and "West Indies". This multi national cricket team represents the English speaking Caribbean countries and British Dependencies that form the British West Indies. They had their test status granted on 1928. They played their first test match at Lords against england from 23rd to 26th June on 1928 and ruled the cricket world and were considered as number one till 1980. Their success quickly faltered due to economic crises in the country and also because of the cricket board which failed to take any action to promote the sport.

One of the greatest players from the modern West Indies team was Brian Lara who has since retired from international cricket. Shivnarine ChanderPaul is in 2nd position in the ICC batsman ranking for test cricket and in 5th position for ODI. J.E Taylor is placed in 9th position in the ICC bowler rankings for ODI.
