Srilankan cricket team is the national cricket team for Srilanka representing in international cricket.They are governed by the SriLanka Cricket Board.Their test status was granted on 1982 .They are the the Eighth test cricket playing nation.They played their first test match against England from 17 th to 21st feburary in Columbo.They emerged as a powerful crickter team during the 90s after defeating India in a 5 day series.They won the 1996 World cup defeating Australia in the Finals ,they were runners up in the 2008 world cup.Sanath Jayasuriya ,Mutthiah Muralitharan ,Chaminda Vaas are the key players of the Srilankan team .Mahela Jayawardane ,captain of the SriLnkan team was warded the best captain ward by the ICC.Sri Lanka is currently in 5th position in the ICC test rankings and in 7th position in the ICC ODI rankings.Kumar Sangkara is in the 1st position in the ICC batsman ranking for test cricket and in 10 th position for ODI.Jayawardane is in 9th position in the ICC batsman ranking list for test cricket.Mutthiah Muralitharan is in 1st position in the ICC bowler rankings for test cricket and in 4th position for the ODI.Chaminda Vaas is in 7th position in the ICC bowler rankings for test cricket and in 5th position for the ODI.They won the Asia cup conducted on 2008 defeating India in finals.
