MTN Domestic Championship

The MTN Domestic Championship is a List A domestic cricket competition held in South Africa.It was first played in the year 1996 with the 5 teams that had taken part in the Benson and Hedges Cup as the participants.This 45 overs tournament is considered to be the next major limited over tournament after the Benson and Hedges cup which was disbanded in 1996.
This interprovincial tournament was given a new look by the United Cricket Board of South Africa in the 2004 season.They replaced the traditional provincial teams with 6 franchise teams.This franchise system was adopted to improve the standards of domstic cricket in South Africa.The Zimbabwean team were invited to take part in the 2008 season.
The tournament was known as Standard Bank cup when it was first introduced,it was only from the 2006 season that the current name came into being.Each team plays other team twice (home and outside) after which the top four teams from the points table are selected for the semifinals.The winners of the semifinals play against each other in the finals.The Nashua Titans team are the current(2007/08) winners of the tournment.
